Hello! How are you?
Thanks for meeting with me today. I’ve been feeling pretty overwhelmed lately. Graduation is coming up, and I still don’t feel like I know what I want to do.
I hear you. That’s a common feeling, especially at this stage. First off, it’s okay not to have everything figured out right now. Tell me—what’s been on your mind the most?
I guess… I’ve always thought I’d go into marketing because that’s what I studied, but I’m not excited about any of the jobs I’ve seen. I’m starting to wonder if I even chose the right field.
That’s an important realization. Just because you studied something doesn’t mean you’re locked into it forever. Are there any moments from your classes or past jobs that felt fulfilling or exciting?
Honestly? I really enjoyed the group projects where I got to pitch ideas. I also loved organizing events for the student club I’m part of. It felt more creative and less routine.
Sounds like you’re drawn to creativity, communication, and probably leadership too. Have you considered fields like event planning, branding, or maybe even entrepreneurship?
I hadn’t really. I think I was so focused on finding the "safe" path that I didn’t explore other directions. But those things actually do interest me more.
That’s a great insight. Sometimes the “safe” path isn't the most sustainable one if it drains your energy. I’d recommend doing a few informational interviews—talk to people in branding or creative fields. Get a feel for what their day-to-day is like.
That’s a good idea. I wouldn’t even know where to start, though.
I thought I had to follow the path I chose years ago, but now I’m realizing it’s okay to change direction if it means finding something that truly fits me.
Start with your network—professors, alumni, even LinkedIn. I can also connect you with a couple of people I know in those areas if you’d like.
That would be amazing. Thanks so much—I already feel a little more grounded.
That’s what I’m here for. Remember, you don’t need all the answers right now. Just keep asking the right questions.
